Research focus:

Chemical exposure to indoor air and children adverse health effects.

Part of the study is to determine chemicals present in indoor dust and consumer products using non-target high resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) screening approaches. One of the tasks is to collect dust and product samples from Dutch homes. Another task is to develop a fast screening approach based on HR-MS. Then, the information collected by the analysis of chemicals in dust and products will be utilised in an exposure reducing  intervention. There is a qualitative part to the research, in which the use of questionnaires and interviews will better our understanding of the public’s perceptions and attitudes towards indoor air quality and exposure. Along with the results from the quantitative research, will lead to behavioral changes or air improving technologies, deployed at the intervention. The results of which will then be utilised in pressing regulations about better products concerning air quality and about raising public awareness regarding behaviours.

My favourite thing about being a researcher: My favourite thing about being a researcher is being able to feed my curiosity while remaining curious. I like the fact that no matter how many questions are answered by research, there are always more to be discovered.
